Technical Artist - Wizards of the Coast

We’re working hard to bring Magic: Spellslingers to life with Wizards of the Coast and are looking for a skilled Technical Artist to join our development team. The ideal Technical Artist candidate will work closely with our Art Leads and Studio Art Director to support the art tea m and develop solutions to tough problems.

Due to COVID-19, this position will start remotely until conditions permit returning to the office in Eugene, OR. Necessary hardware and software will be provided to support a remote work environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create technical solutions for visual and pipeline issues
  • Setup character rigs
  • Work to connect the art and engineering efforts
  • Develop unique shaders and materials
  • Project performance evaluations and recommendations
  • Working knowledge of Maya, specifically the ability to create custom script tools (MEL / Python) that streamline artist workflow and/or increase efficiency
  • Unity experience is a must
  • Ability to rig/weight characters in Maya
  • Strong understanding of art pipelines and tool creation
  • Understanding of “artistic concepts”, e.g. modeling, lighting, shading, and animation
  • Ability to assess occasional contradictory technical and artistic needs and provide creative compromises
  • Working knowledge of C# and Python/MEL required
  • Overall attention to detail, both visually and technically
  • Strong interest in the industry and a desire to make games
  • Ability to work as part of a game team
  • Understanding of 3D art and 2D art
  • Ability to partner with engineers to develop and integrate technical solutions for art team needs
  • Familiarity with C++ or other high-level languages
  • General knowledge of programmable shaders
  • Unreal and Blueprint experience
  • Work in an organized way in a studio with multiple projects at a given time
  • Work effectively with other artists and engineers to achieve project goals
  • Solve problems to the benefit of the project/team
  • Any degree or certification in both Art and Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role

Candidate should provide a portfolio of tech art samples that they have created for projects and a resume detailing the projects/studios that they have been a part of.
